GeoLex has MOVED
We've been building something bigger and better over at The Bight
Hey all! You may have noticed that we haven’t updated this Substack page since March! That’s a long time to go without creating a new article for you all. And it’s not because we didn’t want to. Honest! There is a reason.
As many of you no doubt know, in addition to this Substack, we’ve also been working on another Substack page that was all about my Geography By Geoff YouTube channel (this one being about our GeoLex YouTube channel). We’ve been trying to grow them both at the same time with the idea that the different communities would want different things therefore two separate Substack newsletters would be warranted. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Which means something needs to change.
Now, we know change is scary, but there’s good news and bad news. Personally, I always believe in starting with the bad news, so let’s hit that first:
Bad news 😭
This Substack newsletter and website will be deprecated and retired. When I originally created it, a little over a year ago now, I thought it would be nice to have a Substack newsletter devoted to our travels. But managing this Substack and the other Substack, as well as all the social media bits and pieces floating around, just made things harder to keep track of. Content has been disjointed. And, more than anything else, we’ve been left with a question we just can’t answer: what are we trying to do with this Substack newsletter? There always has to be a goal. Something we can look forward to reaching. A service or form of entertainment that we love offering. And, well, we just couldn’t find it in this newsletter.
But for the hundreds of you who did subscribe and are now worried you won’t be able to follow along with our travel and geography adventures, there is good news!
Good news 😁
The good news is that Alexa and I are looking forward to sharing geographic insights with you all about our travels once again. There’s lots of weird and strange geography out there and we’re lucky enough to be able to actually go and see it. It just won’t be here. Instead, it will be on our brand new geography community page and newsletter: The Bight (thebight.co).
BUT WAIT, you don’t have to rush over there now and resubscribe! Thanks to the handy nature of Substack, we’re simply importing all subscribers here to The Bight, so you literally have nothing to do if you don’t want to. You’ll get emails on a weekly basis just like normal.
Now that said, because you’re all GeoLex super fans, there are some changes over at The Bight that never really existed here. Mainly, there’s now a paid-subscriber option. While you’ll still get free articles every week over at The Bight, if you want additional human-made geography content from us here’s what you can subscribe to get:
Additional subscriber-only articles about geography and our travels, community threads, and access to the full past archive
The Bight exclusive video content including behind-the-scenes stuff from GeoLex
Ad and sponsor-free Geography By Geoff and GeoLex videos
A free digital Köppen climate world map (print at home)
The knowledge that you’re supporting HUMAN-MADE geography content
So, if that at all sounds enticing to you, then be sure to head over to…
…right now! And go and upgrade to a paid membership. It’s only $5 a month or $50 for a year.
So, with that, thank you for being here AND we’re looking forward to seeing you over at The Bight very soon.
